Invitation Inspiration

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

We’ve said it a million times, your wedding stationery can really set the tone for your entire event.  That’s why we were really impressed when cake designer, Erica O’Brien created a beautiful wedding cake using one of our wedding invitations as inspiration.  We loved her work so much, that we want to share it with you:

Getting Inspiration from Movies

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

I’m sure we all fell in love with movies like “My Bestfriend’s Wedding,” “wishing and hoping and praying” that while our wedding day won’t be such a disaster, our bridesmaids and we would one day look as beautiful as Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz. If you haven’t seen this one or other wedding movies listed here, I’d say do some research. It’ll give you ideas, help you get inspired and have fun while doing it!

Who could forget that lavender dress that Julia Roberts wore as the Maid of Honor? Kimberly Wallace played by Cameron Diaz’s character definitely had an elegant wedding. Wedding Paper Divas Letterpress Collection and Floral Damask wedding invitations in Burgundy would be fitting.   (Photo from Yahoo! Movies.)

Sex in the City’s Carrie Bradshaw did it ‘Big’ on her wedding day with big hair, dramatic colors and couture dresses in the movie. Her invitations would have to have her signature piece, a big, beautiful flower. (Photo from NY Daily News.)

3) Though it took place in the 80’s, what makes, “The Wedding Singer” so inspiring is the songs, characters and that it is funny. And simple and sweet like the Sassy Stripes Wedding Invitations in Bisque.  (Photo from Yahoo! Movies.)

4) Runaway Bride another movie starring Julia Roberts showcased a variety of wedding styles. This one is country chic and my favorite in the movie. And Butterfly Love Wedding Invitations in Pumpkin perfectly matches the romance and beauty of the scene. (Photo from Yahoo! Movies.)

A Pocketful of Regrets

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

An article on MSN.com caught my attention. Titled, “Biggest Wedding Regrets,” it reported various responses from newly married brides about the things they wished they had done differently. I’m listing a few of my own regrets with some from the article here. Hopefully, it’ll get those of you who are in the process of planning to realize the imperfection of all weddings, as well as help those who have already gotten married to accept your wedding’s little mistakes and dramas.

1) RECEPTION

One bride regretted having a chocolate fountain at her wedding because of the mess it caused with the flower girls and their dresses. She recommended either not having one or packing a kit filled with things like towelettes in case of this type of emergency. Another bride wished that she hadn’t relied on online maps as directions. To prevent your guests from getting lost, run through the directions at least once and then make sure to include direction cards with your invitations.

2) BRIDES

Brides regretted everything from wearing false eyelashes to not having a picture of the bustle before the actual wedding. The main theme here involves the importance of practicing beforehand. Make sure you try on everything prior to the big day.

3) WEDDING PLANNING

I wished I hired a wedding coordinator earlier in the process, and that I hired a videographer so my dad wouldn’t have felt like he was “working” during my reception. Think about whether you would rather spend a few thousand dollars for a more reputable company or for additional services.

Another bride said that she regretted doing her own invitations. Again, I think it’s important to weigh the cost of time versus money. Spending a little more money might be worth it if in return you’re getting better quality vendors and less stress from doing your own invitations. Also, I ordered my stationery online from Wedding Paper Divas (Wild Grass Save the Dates) to save money without having to sacrifice style or taste.

A Bit of Black

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

I was happily surprised when I ran into one of Diva Dialogue’s readers the other day. Planning her own wedding, she was having some trouble deciding a color theme. With a preference for black, she asked me how to incorporate this palette into her wedding. Here’s my take on this dramatic, chic and formal hue.

Photos top row: Black escort cards from The Knot, Color favor boxes from Beau-coup, Ethel silk halter dress from Ann Taylor, Black tie bouquet from Martha Stewart Weddings, Black and white cake from Pink Cake Box, Simple Elegance Wedding Invitations from Wedding Paper Divas, Black satin sandals from Brides, and White Gold Black and White Diamond Earrings from Macy’s.
