Wedding TV We Love

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Reality TV has it’s drawbacks—I can’t stand any game show except for Jeopardy!, and I find a half hour of watching grown men injure themselves in the name of comedy to be positively dull—but I also can’t help but love the ridiculous antics that reality TV brides put on display. From the outrageous behavior of some truly bratty bridezillas to that sweet moment when a girl finds the dress she’s been dreaming of, here’s a list of some of our favorite wedding shows.

  • TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress: It’s like shopping from your couch! We love seeing the parade of different styles on this show, but we love it even more when the bride’s mother/grandmothers/aunts/friends/cousins/random acquaintances all burst into tears when she finds the perfect dress. Classic.
  • FitTV’s Buff Brides: This show is full of workout inspiration, great healthy eating and living tips and it makes us feel like we are working towards our fitness goals while we sit on the couch. At least we are thinking about it…
  • WEtv’s Bridezillas and Rich Bride, Poor Bride: WEtv has a wealth of fun wedding shows, but we particularly love watching spoiled brides having massive meltdowns! Who doesn’t?
  • Bravo’s Project Runway and Top Chef: We know these shows aren’t overtly about weddings per se, but whenever there’s a competition involving haute couture or culinary expertise, you can be sure a wedding episode is sure to follow. We particularly loved Gail Simmon’s bridal shower on Top Chef and all of the fun and funky gowns in the finale of the last season of Project Runway.

Sweet “Scrubs” Proposal Caught on Tape

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

I love “Scrubs” for all its zany antics and charming characters, but whether or not you watch the show, this is one episode you don’t want to miss! Make sure you have the sound on–and maybe a box of tissues nearby!

Rocking Out at Your Reception

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Have you decided what you’re going to do for your first dance? My husband and I had just one lesson, but thought it was well worth it. We danced to “Stolen” by Dashboard Confessionals, and took what we learned and made it our own. First dancing slow and then we surprised guests by showing off the moves we picked up from that four hour class. The cheers we got were totally worth all the money, hours of practice and the nerves we felt beforehand.

I’ve noticed that this type of dancing is getting quite popular and has inspired the latest reality TV show. “Rock the Reception” on TLC showcases couples as they learn how to surprise guests with their fancy footwork. Kind of like a spin-off from the YouTube video I showed in a previous post, this one is so fun and it really rocks!
