From the Bride-to-be…

When Kevin and I, first started dating, he would tell me “fairytales” and use us as the main characters. I was the princess, and he was my prince. After a few months of dating and storytelling, he took me to Griffith Observatory, and asked me to be his girlfriend by putting together all “our fairytales” into one storybook. The last chapter of that book said “to be continued…”

Five and a half years later, he continued that story. On the day of the proposal, he took me to four places, each one meaningful to our relationship. The first location was where we had our first date, and the last location was where he asked me to be his girlfriend. At Griffith Observatory, he took me back to “our spot,” and turned me around to overlook the city. As we turned, he handed me another storybook! It was the continuation of “our fairytale,” and included tales and pictures from throughout the years. Thoughts kept running through my head as I turned each page. Once I reached the last page, it said “The prince always wanted to make his princess happy, and he could not imagine spending his life without her so he said…” It was then that he got down on one knee and asked “Will you marry me?” Without a doubt, I said “Yes!” Then, I cried a little (okay, maybe a lot). I was then surprised by our family and close friends. It was the most perfect proposal that I could ever imagine, and I can’t wait to spend happily ever after with my prince charming.

Nick and Halli are set to be wed next year after a year of dating. Their morning engagement pictures proved to be romantic and dreamy at the South Carolina Statehouse. Halli is incredibly down to earth, and she was so excited to walk around in her sparkly gold stilettos with the love of her life. They joked and laughed through the whole session, and their kisses were oh-so-passionate. Nick looked dapper in his suit and modern tie, and he kept his bride warm and happy the whole morning. Romantic images of a classy couple.

Fun Engagement Photos on The Water

Happy Thursday Divas!

Today is all about a little fun on the water with these quirky engagement photos. We absolutely love how these photos, captured by the ever-talented A Magic Moment Photography and Video, showcase the true personality and love that this couple shares. Kristen and Steve are all smiles on the jet ski and surely make a splash in the pool, how fun. Congrats to the happy couple. Scroll on through to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

From the Photographer…

Kristen and Steve first met in the hallway of their New Jersey High School where Steve was singing the jingle from the 1997 Campbell Soup commercial. However, it wasn’t until after college that Kristen and Steve began frequenting similar “hang-out” spots and then never stopped.

Kristen and Steve moved in to their first apartment together in Soho during Hurricane Sandy so they were left to move with no power. After coming home one night, Steve dressed in a tuxedo, got down on one knee and popped the question.

Nothing better than a warm, sunny day spent with a cute couple. Complete with a beautiful lake house, jet skis and lots of kisses! We joined Kristin and Steve for an engagement session at the lake on which her parent’s house sits. The weather was perfect and the newly engaged couple splashed in the pool, rode jet skis and had a blast. Even the family dog was included.

Kristen and Steve invited us to photograph their engagement and we were lucky enough to also photograph their wedding in 2014. As can be seen from these photos, these two are fun, silly and spontaneous. It was such a blast hanging out with them!

Classic Southern Charm Kentucky Wedding

Today, we are so excited to share Andrew and Matia’s timeless big day. This Kentucky wedding stays true to the couple and Spindletop Hall elevates these nuptials to perfection. The soft pink pastels and elegant bouquets just add to the beauty of their day.

Venue: Spindletop Hall, Lexington, KY

From the Bride…

Andrew and I met one morning when he sat down next to me on a plane en route to Lexington, Kentucky. At the time I lived in Raleigh, NC but traveled frequently for work, visiting KY every few weeks. After dating long distance for a few months, I packed up my things and moved to Kentucky to be with Andrew. A little over a year later we took a trip to Boulder, CO and Andrew proposed while hiking!

When planning our wedding, we wanted the day to have some southern charm with a classic timeless feel. Spindletop Hall in Lexington could not have been a more perfect venue for this! Built in 1935, this mansion has over 40 rooms and so much charm including original chandeliers in the dining rooms, two winding staircases, a library, and massive stone fireplaces. Because Andrew works in the horse racing industry and Kentucky is the horse capital of North America, we used some thoroughbred accents throughout the wedding to add a unique equestrian touch. A few of these touches and others included:

  • Horse themed wedding logo for our custom match books and napkins
  • Quarter pole center pieces for each table, named after Andrew’s favorite race tracks in the world. My dad actually made each centerpiece for us!
  • Daily Racing Form themed programs with wedding day silks for all bridal party members.
  • Vintage wrought iron horse shoes that we turned into magnets as favors at each place setting.
  • Groom’s Cake was a replica of the Triple Crown trophy in honor of this year’s Triple Crown winner and featured the jockey’s silks/colors.
  • Signature appetizers and drinks including Kentucky’s mint juleps and mini hot browns.
  • Our cake- simple buttercream cake accented with fresh flowers to match the bride’s bouquet!
  • Greenery! In planning the wedding, we worked with our florist to ensure all aspects of our wedding including a lot of greenery to keep the look classic and effortless. The shell pink and navy colors with gold accents helped pull everything together exactly how we dreamed.
  • The groom kept his attire a surprise- he had his navy wedding suit custom made in Italy for the big day!
  • One of our other favorite “details” was my wedding dress- it kind of set the tone for our wedding with its classic A-line, simple details, classic crushed organza, and buttons all the way down the back and train.
  • Bride’s mom cut the neck of her wedding dress and had it wrapped around the bride’s bouquet for something old and borrowed.
  • Vintage Bentley escorted us back to the historic Gratz Park Inn for the night.
  • All my aunts and uncles wrote me letters. My mom and dad also wrote letters and my mom gave them all to me the morning of the wedding to read. *Before we did makeup!*

Before the ceremony and during, we had a string quartet playing music for guests, followed by a dj.

  • The wedding party walked down the aisle to Edelwiess, a lullaby sung in one of Matia’s favorite musicals- The Sound of Music.
  • Matia and her father walked down the aisle to Beethoven’s Piano Sonata NO. 8, “Pathetique” Op. 13:II. Matia chose this because it is one of the songs Andrew always plays for her on the piano.
  • A friend of the bride sang “The Prayer” after the exchange of wedding vows
  • Cocktail hour music consisted of Sinatra, Rat Pack, and other jazz standards.
  • The couple’s first dance was a foxtrot to Frank Sinatra’s Nice’ N ’Easy.

The best part of getting married on July 4th is every year we, along with America, will be celebrating our love and marriage with fireworks! Unfortunately, sparklers were not allowed at the venue, so we gave guests glow sticks instead.

Congratulations to the beautiful couple!

Real Wedding: Keiko & Ray

Today’s Real Wedding features the lovely couple Keiko and Ray who were married at The Castaway in Burbank, CA. Since the groom is allergic to flowers, his sister came up with the idea of using paper flowers. Every flower was made from paper including the centerpieces, gazebo, corsages, bouquets, and reception table decor. The main flower is called a Kusudama and it involves folding 5 pieces of paper into petals, gluing the petals together and then gluing the flowers to the branches or the foam balls. The main centerpieces also included paper butterflies, for a total of 622 paper flowers and 123 paper butterflies.
