Flashback to Film: The Perks of Film Photography

Digital cameras might be all the rage, but that doesn’t mean film is dead just yet. There are a ton of artistic photographers who are dedicated to giving film a comeback, and the results of their work are truly dazzling.

Many of you may have noticed how Dan & Julie’s Real Wedding was full of unique photos, bright colors and interesting shots—that’s right! It was all shot on high quality film, printed and then scanned in to create digital prints.

You Look Nice Today Photography is a big proponent of film photos. I know it might be scary not to have the benefit of instant digital feedback, but it might be worth a try if you want truly unique photos with a fresh, artistic flair. Just look at how gorgeous some of these shots from You Look Nice Today came out:

Real Weddings: Majka & Ziggy

Today’s Real Wedding was submitted by Michelle of Misha Media. Majka and Ziggy married June 8, 2009 in Chicago. The photographer took advantage of the atmosphere of the Windy City to create stunning shots using Majka’s long, flowing veil. We love the Manolos and the classic city photos!

Growing up in a very suburban area of Detroit, surrounded by lakes, trees and nature, a visit to the city always evoked a sense of awe. I remember the first time I witnessed a wedding in a park in downtown Chicago, surrounded by skyscrapers and honking taxi cabs, and I thought to myself, “this is beautiful.” Beautiful doesn’t have to be a wedding in the country, or on the beach, or at a country club. The city in and of itself is beautiful and today’s inspiration board touches the part of me that absolutely adores the sharp contrasts between a soft, white wedding and the bright, loud lights of the city.

Artist Kristine Baelin, owner of Figment Studio, uses her unique style to hand paint any photo or portrait in to a piece of contemporary pop art. Real Weddings: Patti & Danny

Today’s Real Wedding photos were taken by Dana Grant Photography. Patti and Danny married at the Bel-Air Bay Club in Pacific Palisades, California. The couple focused on fun details for their ceremony and reception, including pink light-up ice cubes to give some sparkle to guests’ drinks, and a charming photo booth for some priceless photos.

The bride advises that all engaged couples hire a wedding planner to minimize stress and maximize good memories. She says, “Even if it’s just for day-of planning, knowing that someone is taking care of everything allows you to have a fun time. You’re there with the person you love most in the world, and you are surrounded by all your friends and family. How could you not have a good time?”
