Making DJ Requests: Today’s Diva Dish

Once you have your perfect DJ and playlist all set up, there’s only one thing that can throw a wrench in your plans: requests from guests. Here’s what we recommend should you find yourself in this type of situation…

Dear Divas,

I hired a great DJ and put a lot of thought and care into the songs I selected for my wedding reception. I want to be sure that the music is appropriate for my entire guest list, young and old, and does not offend anybody. However, I have several friends who will be attending that I fear may request songs from the DJ that might not be appropriate. What should I do?

DJ Dilemma

Dear DJ Dilemma,

We applaud your efforts to try and make sure that everyone will enjoy the music at your reception. It’s very thoughtful of you! Just make sure you don’t get too bogged down in details like this—we promise that as long as the mood is lively and cheerful, everyone will be sure to have a good time.

As far as DJ requests go, you can always tell the DJ you hired to simply not take requests from guests. Alternatively, you can give him or her a set of guidelines (no songs with inappropriate lyrics, no heavy metal, no gangsta rap…whatever sounds most appropriate to you). Either way, make sure to put the DJ in charge so you can just sit back and enjoy the big day without worrying about the music.

Top Bridal Party Entrance Songs

My best friend is the maid of honor in a wedding that’s taking place in just a few weeks, and she called me last night for some advice on what her entrance song should be at the reception. There’s a 20 year age gap between her and the groomsman escorting her, so any mention of classic *NSYNC songs we all enjoyed so much in our younger years were immediately shot down.

I vowed to help her compile a list of songs that she could present to the bride for her input. Whether you want your bridal party‘s entrances to be funny, exciting or sweet, this collection is sure to have something to put the finishing touches on your special celebration!

Sweet & Sentimental

  • “Sunshine of My Life”—Stevie Wonder
  • “With a Little Help From My Friends”—The Beatles
  • “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”—Toy Story
  • “Beautiful Day”—U2
  • “I’ll Be There for You”—The Rembrandts

Getting Ready to Party

  • “One More Time”—Daft Punk
  • “Let’s Get it Started”—Black Eyed Peas
  • “Pump It Up!”—Danzel

Wedding Watch: Grease Music Video

I am a sucker for wedding music videos. They are so fun and goofy! I really love it when everyone goes all out, as in this adorable Queen video that also made it on Wedding Watch. This one is full of the same energy and style, but I can’t decide if the song from Grease is cute or cliched. What do you think?
