Honeymoon-Inspired Wedding Fashion

This week we’re giving you fresh ideas for a faux destination wedding inspired by your honeymoon location. From food and drinks to decor and wedding stationery, we think a honeymoon-inspired wedding blends together the drama and luxury of an exotic locale with the comfort and affordability of a local celebration.

To continue this trend, we’ve selected a few of our favorite wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses to match a haute couture honeymoon destination. Which look would match your wedding best?

Look like a Grecian goddess when you walk down the aisle. This one-shouldered gown is perfect for a day spend daydreaming about island hopping in the Mediterranean.

Buenos Aires

Ruffles, refined elegance and a pop of vibrant color combine to make this gorgeous look from The Dessy Group the ideal way to infuse your big day with the style of your South American destination.

Paris is a city full of love and luxury, so make sure to have a bit of fun with fashion on your big day. I love this wedding dress from J.Crew. Doesn’t she look like a high fashion version of the Eiffel Tower?

Tropical Escapes

Dress your bridesmaids in bright hues with colorful bouquets to bring a little island style to your celebration. This fun ruffled dress would be the perfect complement to hot pink blooms.

Out of Africa

Don’t be afraid to use prints and patterns in your bridesmaids dresses, especially if you are jetting off on a safari for your honeymoon. This look has the right blend of neutrals and bold hues.

The vibrant pink and subtle gold hues on this dress seem perfectly suited for a wedding that foreshadows a few exciting adventures in India.

Give your wedding a bit of an Alice in Wonderland theme with crisp green hedges, Alice-blue bridesmaids dresses and playful checkered patterns.

Honeymoon-Inspired Food & Drinks

Wedding themes come in all different shapes and sizes and we love hearing how resourceful brides are getting creative while planning theirs, without straying from their budgets. One hot trend that we’re gushing over right now is honeymoon-inspired weddings. Not able to pull off the lavish destination wedding? Fret not, recessionista bride—let your honeymoon destination inspire your local celebration instead! No matter where your post-wedding travel plans will take you, incorporating that locale’s provisions into your occasion will be sure to leave all your guests filled with wanderlust.

Island Paradise

Whether you’re headed to a dreamy resort in Indonesia or a cruise through the Caribbean, island fare is all about fresh seafood, colorful ingredients and flavorful spices—not to mention bright cocktails!

Mediterranean Marvel

From the Greek Isles to the Amalfi Coast, Mediterranean food is known for being hearty and delicious with a romantic appeal. Serving it family-style will add extra charm and inspire conversation! Also, don’t forget the red wine and an assortment of olives for every table! Think skewered meats, bright tomatoes and handcrafted pasta.

Pacific Northwest

Outdoorsy type? Tie in your love for Mother Nature by throwing a locavore feast! Grab the chef and find your favorite farm or farmers’ market to hand-pick the freshest herbs, organic produce and sustainable meats and seafood available in your area. Your event will be as chic as it is eco-friendly.

East meets West

Take the delicious flavors of Asian cuisine and present them in a stylish yet familiar fashion—like sushi pizza and pork sliders! Add some additional eastern flair to the dessert table or party favors with custom fortune cookies from Beau-Coup! Don’t forget chopsticks, sake to sip and chic white dishware for added flavor!

Eating Your Way Through Europe

European fare offers a wealth of options—all of which will add a healthy amount of charm to your wedding menu. French macaroons, Spanish paella, delectable cheese plates, warm baguettes and Guinness beer are only a small handful of ideas that come to mind. For added delight, serve your food on tapas-style small plates!

Are you planning your wedding menu around your honeymoon destination? Send us your ideas to blog@weddingpaperdivas.com and we’ll feature them on Diva Dialogue!

Hot Trend: Honeymoon-Inspired Weddings

The recessionista bride might not be hosting a lavish destination wedding, but we love how resourceful brides are letting their honeymoon destinations inspire their local celebrations instead! From sweet seaside inspiration to elegant and exotic locales, this hot new trend in wedding planning is sure to leave all of your guests daydreaming about a getaway of their own.

Can’t envision what a honeymoon-inspired wedding would look like? Here are a few popular destinations and the wedding decor they might inspire:

Bold orchid hues, tropical flowers and a hint of sunshine yellow will transform your celebration into a beach-worthy event (even if you’re in a landlocked state without so much as a lake nearby!).

Known as a city full of romance, style and glamour, Paris is the perfect honeymoon destination. Add a touch of chic Parisian style to your reception with favors and invitations inspired by the City of Love.

The Bahamas

When you want to spend your honeymoon lounging on a beach and soaking up the sun, there’s no better destination than the Bahamas. A touch of coral and a few stylish seashells will have all of your guests daydreaming about blue seas and white sand.

Full of culture, couture and cuisine, Japan is a stylish destination for jetsetting couples. Encourage your guests to get in the fun with chopstick favors and these gorgeous little flower petal sushi rolls.

Give your elegant event a touch of casual Mediterranean flair with these simple ideas inspired by Italy’s wine country. Luscious tomatoes will add a pop to your centerpieces, while bold blues and charming patterns will transform your invitations into a classic work of art.

Honeymoon Guide: Sydney, Australia

I returned from my trip to Sydney nearly two months ago, and I’ve just now started to recover from the depression I fell into once I left. The city is full of delectable cuisine, world-class shopping, breathtaking vistas and some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.

Sydney is so vibrant and beautiful, I promise you’ll never want to leave.

Where to Eat & Drink

  • The Australian Hotel: Nestled in the Rocks—the oldest and one of the most lovely neighborhoods of Sydney—the “Oz” offers a delicious selection of gourmet pizza and beer. We sampled chicken pesto, duck and kangaroo pizza, and loved them all!
  • Spice I Am: This Thai restaurant offers  a divine selection of spicy dishes, including green papaya salad, crispy pork belly and a variety of mouthwatering curries. It’s a locals’ favorite, and it’s definitely worth the wait for a table. You won’t be disappointed.

  • Altitude Restaurant at the Shangri-La Hotel: Perfect for pre-dinner cocktails, the Shangri-La offers some of the best views of Sydney Harbor, the Harbor Bridge and the Opera House.
  • Opera Bar: We spent our first night in Sydney sipping cocktails at this gorgeous outdoor bar, which is snuggled right underneath the famous Opera House. The view is stunning, the drinks are strong and the atmosphere provides a perfect introduction to the vibrant fun of Sydney.

What to Do

  • Royal Botanical Gardens: Wander around the gardens for a little while, and you’re sure to feel inspired and rejuvenated. Keep your camera ready for some spectacular photo ops!
  • Sydney Opera House: The Opera House tour was delightful, but watching an actual performance in the Opera House is unforgettable. Check the schedule to see what’s playing when you are in town.
  • Museum of Contemporary Art: This free museum in the Rocks is home to a variety of cool exhibits that range from fun and quirky to intensely thought-provoking.
  • Taronga Zoo: Hop on a ferry (a fun activity in and of itself!) for the chance to get up close and personal with native Australian wildlife. You walk through the kangaroo exhibit like it’s a petting zoo, with no cages or bars to keep the ‘roos from hopping right up next to you.
  • Bondi Beach: Stroll along the Bondi to Bronte beach walk, visit the Underwater Bondi Experience and make time to lounge on this extraordinary stretch of the coastline.

Where to Shop

  • Gertrude and Alice: Order a pot of chai tea, gather an armful of used books and get cozy—this bookstore is the kind of place you could happily spend hours in.
  • Paddington Markets: Visit these Saturday markets to find everything from original artwork to jewelry, chocolates, furniture, clothing and fresh flowers. The Paddington Markets let you do all your souvenir shopping in one place!
