DIY Divas: Wedding Hair Accessories

If you’ve ever wandered through a craft fair or artisan market and wondered whether or not you could make their gorgeous little creations for yourself, we’ve got great news—you absolutely can (at least when it comes to feather hair accessories)! These two separate DIY hair accessories projects were inspired by designs we saw at a local market, but we made them here for half the price and double the fun.

If you’re looking for wedding hair accessories or just another fashionable find to add to your wardrobe, give these chic DIY projects a try! Here’s how:

Supplies

  • Feathers. We used peacock feathers and a rustic feather mat for our headband piece.
  • A basic thin headband in a coordinating color
  • 1/2 inch ribbon in a coordinating color
  • Jewels to match your feathers
  • A hot glue gun

To create your own feather headband…

Step 1: Measure the Length of Your Ribbon

The ribbon serves as a sleeve through which you will slide the headband, so make sure to position the ribbon lengthwise on your feathers. This will ensure that the feathers are securely fastened to the headband without flopping to one side or sliding around.

Step 2: Carefully Attach the Ribbon

This step can be a little tricky. Make sure to glue ONLY the outsides of the ribbon to give the headband a channel to pass through. If you glue the entire ribbon down, there will be no way to get your headband through!

Step 3: Secure Headband & Enjoy!

Once the hot glue has dried, gently slide the headband through the ribbon on the back of the feathers.

The best part about this DIY project is that you can create several different attachments for the one headband, from flowers to feathers, fabric and more! Simply slide off one look and replace it with the next.

To create your own peacock hair clip…

Step 1: Trim the Peacock Feather

Clean up the ends of your peacock feather, but don’t trim it too short! There will be time to perfect the finished product later.

Step 2: Prep the Hair Clip

We couldn’t find hair clips that were already prepped for attaching the feathers, so we simply used our handy hot glue gun to attach ribbon to this clip. Otherwise, we were afraid the feather might not fully stick to the limited surface area on the original clip.

If you add ribbon backing to your clip as well, be sure to trim the edges for a clean and crisp look.

Step 3: Attach the Peacock Feather

Once the hot glue on the ribbon has cooled and dried completely, use your hot glue gum to firmly attach the feather to the ribbon backing. Press down for several seconds and wait for everything to dry.

Step 4: Add the Finishing Touches

We added a single gold button to the base of our clip using the hot glue gun, then trimmed the extra length at the bottom.

As a finalstep, we added three rhinestones in teal and turquoise hues for an extra touch of sparkle.

Et voila! Two finished hair clips ready for anything from your walk down the aisle to your grand entrance at your rehearsal dinner. Aren’t they fun?

DIY Divas: Easy Bridesmaid Hair Accessories

8:00:12 by Katie | 1 Comment

In theory, all DIY projects are fun—until you are up all night before the big day trying to pull together the finishing touches. This project, on the other hand, is ABSOLUTELY fun!

We had a blast making these super easy, coordinating bridesmaids hair accessories. It’s the perfect way to get the girls together for a little down time before the wedding, let each bridesmaid express her own style and get the chance to play with a hot glue gun. What more could you ask for?

Each of these perfectly represents the personality of the girl who made it. Can you tell which hair clip belongs to each Wedding Paper Divas blogger?

Step 1: Gather the Supplies

Select a range of supplies to match your wedding theme. You’ll need:

  • a hot glue gun
  • hair clips
  • some kind of base
  • little craft flowers
  • jewels for an extra special touch.

We chose shimmery gold leaves, peachy pink scrapbooking flowers and miniature stick-on pearls. Remember—different sizes and coordinating colors will make everything look pulled together without being too matchy-matchy.

Step 2: Get the Girls Together

Lay out the supplies, pop open a bottle of wine and let the good times roll. It’s the perfect excuse to turn DIY duties into a mini-party!

Step 3: Arrange Your Personalized Hair Accessory

Each of us got to work creating a hair clip we’d be proud to wear down the aisle. By combining the supplies in different ways, we each created a completely unique look that still perfectly matched the overall theme.

Step 4: Glue it All Together

Once the looks are complete, take turns gluing the individual items onto the base leaf with a hot glue gun. Let everything set for a few minutes, then glue the base to the hair clip you’ve chosen and let it cool. Just be careful! I think I burned myself three times during this step…

Step 5: Enjoy Your Finished Bridesmaids Hair Accessories!

Can’t you just imagine us lined up next to the bride at the altar? If you were trying to match the clips to our personalities, Anum made the delicate two-leaf, two-bloom clip with the impeccable lines of mini pearls (only Anum could get them so straight!). Jessy made the cool, indie-style off-center design, and me—well I just like really big flowers.

If you and your friends make your own bridesmaids hair accessories, send us the photos at blog@weddingpaperdivas.com! We’d love to see what you come up with.
