Today, we are thrilled to be sharing this beautiful traditional wedding. Jackie and Mel are sweet newlyweds, who held their big day just a few weeks ago! We love their fun spin on a classic wedding. Though the wedding party is dressed in formal black and white attire, Mel and Jackie’s wedding decor holds stunning pops of pastel purple colors.
From the satin bridal party robes, to the tiered ombre wedding cake, various lavender hues are seen throughout their entire wedding theme. Their stunning, whimsical white arch created for their wedding ceremony may be one of our favorite pieces from the day; It’s soft and romantic, and perfectly reflects a spring wedding.
Jackie and Mel actually met at the The Club at Treasure Island in Florida, so it seemed only right that they held their reception party there! Their personalized floral wedding invitations really set the tone of this celebration. From the great music to dance to, to the fun limo ride the whole wedding party experienced, these two know how to throw a great party.

We are so pleased to have Brittany, a guest blogger for our “Real Brides” blog series. Brittany and her husband, who live in NYC, were recently married in Chicago. She is sharing tips, inspiration and ideas on the Wedding Paper Divas blog for engaged couples who are navigating the world of weddings! Today she is sharing about the process of selecting these elegant wedding invitations.
It’s said that wedding invitations are one of the first expressions of a couple’s taste and wedding style. Eric and I had a favorite design in mind from the onset – Marchesa’s stunning Night Blooms. This design was inspired by a gorgeous gown from one of Marchesa’s recent collections.
We loved the elegant watercolor flowers and gilded stems and how they contrast against the moody and dramatic background. We felt it represented the beauty and charm of the Chicago Botanic Garden and signaled a slightly formal, glamorous feel that we were after. We were so lucky to work again with the amazing team at Wedding Paper Divas to customize the suite and make it our own.
We had a very specific hand calligraphy design in mind for some of the invitation text, and worked again with the talented Debi Zeinert of Blooming Quill to bring our vision to life. Wedding Paper Divas helped us every step of the way with layout, language recommendations and other style advice for the full suite; which included the invitation, envelope liner, response card, “chuppah card” (more on that below!), mini enclosure card (great for including a link to the wedding website or other information that doesn’t typically go into the formal invitation) and a very unique wraparound return address label. In keeping with our subtle theme, we also personalized our postage with a photograph of a bee that my mom had taken years ago at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Debi’s stunning calligraphy on the inner and outer envelopes gave it that extra beautiful, formal touch.
My mother and I made a project out of lining, stuffing, hole-punching, ribbon tying etc. and while it certainly was a time-consuming task, it was a great mother-daughter bonding activity! (And one of the many reasons I wanted to get my parents a great thank you gift!)
I spent a lot of time developing the invitation and suite and wanted to find a prominent way to incorporate the beautiful design into our ceremony. I knew that not everyone would be able to make it to our wedding, especially with a lot of guests living outside Chicago, and wanted to find a way to include everyone in the ceremony, regardless of whether they were physically there. Thus, the idea for the “chuppah card” was born. We hole-punched the response card and tied it with black ribbon to a beautiful blank card featuring the Night Blooms border. The response card directed guests to write a message to us, with the following copy:
We were totally blown away by the messages on our chuppah cards as they came back. Each one was so special and meaningful. We have to give props to my sister-in-law as hers was particularly creative – she dipped her 3-year-old and infant twin sons’ and dog’s hands, feet and paws in yellow paint to create a bee design with the words “We would BEE honored to attend!”
Our wonderful planner, Misha Newgren of Liven It Up Events helped us incorporate the chuppah cards into the most beautiful garlands, which were strung up on the beautiful birch chuppah. I will never forget how incredible they looked, swinging in the breeze over our heads as we were married!
Stay tuned for a final post on our other day-of stationery and details!
