Okay, I admit it–I think the idea of running off into the sunset with your beloved to elope at a resort in Hawaii or on the slopes of a mountain in Colorado is a wildly romantic idea. You would feel so carefree, skipping all the hullabaloo that comes along with wedding planning. Eloping seems like a simplified, more concentrated version of what everyone dreams their weddings will be about–you and the person you love most in the world making a lifelong commitment to each other. You can even check out sites like the adorable Let’s Run Off for advice and real-life elopement stories.
But, whenever I seriously think about it, I come to the conclusion that my family would be heartbroken if I announced that I was eloping and that they weren’t going to be a part of my big celebration.
Would you ever consider eloping? Under what circumstances? Where would you go? Does the idea of eloping make you want to rant or rave?

We should have. It would have allowed us to have a reception in Tampa (my family) and in Birmingham (his family and our friends). Much less stressful.

I agree that it sounds wildly romantic and stress free - but having known a few people who did elope I wouldn’t be able to handle breaking my family’s heart like that. A small destination wedding seems like a better alternative to me.

I couldn’t do it. I like that it would be romantic and private, but I think it is ultimately something I want to share with others I love.

The more drama that comes with planning my wedding, the better eloping sounds! But I would like to have at least some of my friends and family there, so it’s pretty impractical.
Plus, I’m already getting married on a beach in Maui, so that takes that part out of it
