Rant or Rave: Holiday Wedding Days

October 10, 2008 @ 8:49:51 am by by Katie

With the holiday season fast approaching, everyone’s schedules seem to be filling up with dinner parties, shopping sprees and trips home to visit family and friends. With all of the holiday hub-bub happening over the next few months, throwing a wedding into the mix sounds like a social challenge indeed. But scheduling your wedding on or near a holiday has implications throughout the year as well–who wants to attend someone’s wedding on Valentine’s Day, Memorial Day or the Fourth of July?

Have you ever been invited to a wedding on a national holiday? Would you consider scheduling your wedding on a holiday? Why or why not? Rant or rave?

Don’t forget CRAZY expensive plane fares for out of town guests. :(

I guess it depends if you can make it into a holiday vacation. My friend’s wedding is very near Christmas in Hawaii. I am not sure I can go, but I love any excuse to go to Hawaii.

Last year my cousin got married a few days after Christmas and this year her brother is getting married Thanksgiving weekend. With ticket prices being so expensive that time of year, I am unable to attend either event and that is really disappointing. I don’t mind weddings on minor holidays (i.e. 4th of July, Memorial Day), but the bigger ones can be a major inconvenience for out of town guests.

I had two weddings on the same day one Memorial Weekend. This year, one of my best friends got married Labor Day weekend and was upset when her fiance’s original groomsmen picks were saying no. I know that she was thinking people would have more time to travel, but it’s often more expensive during those holiday weekends. I am getting married next July and purposely avoided the 11th because it was still too close to the holiday.

My best friend just picked the Sunday of Memorial Day for her wedding. I am not coming from out of town so that does not effect me, but as an intown guest I love it! It allows me an extra day as most wedding weekends are hectic. Plus, most likely all your close friends will be in one place to celebrate the holiday!

I photographed a 4th of July wedding this year. It was pretty cute with all of the red, white & blue decorations. I need to post some more on my blog to show how it turned out but here is one cute shot from it: http://www.michellewarrenphotography.com/blythe.jpg
