Rant or Rave: Bridesmaid Dance Performance

A good friend is attending a wedding this weekend in which one of the bridesmaids insists upon performing a dance for the couple with her boyfriend, who is a professional dancer. It’s not a group of bridesmaids performing, or even something the bride and groom requested—she simply wants to show off her moves as a “gift” to the happy couple.

Would you be flattered that your friends wanted to perform for you, or do you think this kind of showmanship detracts from the couple as the center of attention?

Is it more acceptable for a group of loved ones to perform together, as in this charming video? What defines the boundary between a fun dance performance and a showy display?

Does the idea of a bridal party member’s solo dance performance make you want to rant or rave?

That was a really funny video. How long did the boys rehearsed that? It must have took them a long time to perfect their moves and it really paid off. Great job guys!

RANT! The day should totally be about the bride and groom and not a silly bmaid or gman who wants to showcase themselves. If it was done together with the whole bridal party or if the bride and groom asked you, then that would be okay. I think it can also be subjective to the type of performance as well.

This is such a touchy subject, and so full of if’s, and’s, or but’s. Overall, I think that a choreographed dance, like the one above, can be fun for the newlyweds and guests. If a guest wants to do their own performance, they should definitely check with the couple first. If the couple isn’t ok with it, then nix the idea altogether. If they are ok with it, then everyone else should be too.

That was a cool choreographed dance by the wedding party! I tapped my best friends wedding this past Holiday and thought you would enjoy this video of mine!!!
