Once you have your perfect DJ and playlist all set up, there’s only one thing that can throw a wrench in your plans: requests from guests. Here’s what we recommend should you find yourself in this type of situation…
I hired a great DJ and put a lot of thought and care into the songs I selected for my wedding reception. I want to be sure that the music is appropriate for my entire guest list, young and old, and does not offend anybody. However, I have several friends who will be attending that I fear may request songs from the DJ that might not be appropriate. What should I do?
Dear DJ Dilemma,
We applaud your efforts to try and make sure that everyone will enjoy the music at your reception. It’s very thoughtful of you! Just make sure you don’t get too bogged down in details like this—we promise that as long as the mood is lively and cheerful, everyone will be sure to have a good time.
As far as DJ requests go, you can always tell the DJ you hired to simply not take requests from guests. Alternatively, you can give him or her a set of guidelines (no songs with inappropriate lyrics, no heavy metal, no gangsta rap…whatever sounds most appropriate to you). Either way, make sure to put the DJ in charge so you can just sit back and enjoy the big day without worrying about the music.
