Add a glamorous Art Deco touch to your wedding cake with today’s simple but stunning cake topper DIY.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Styrofoam ball, 3.5″
- 4″ clear plastic prism picks (we found ours online at a restaurant supply store)
- Metallic gold craft paint
- Metallic gold spray paint
- One wood kabob skewer (cut in half)
Step 1: Cut
Cut a styrofoam ball in half with a sharp knife to make sure you have a smooth, flat half dome.
Step 2: Paint
Paint the styrofoam ball with gold metallic paint and let it dry for a few hours.
Step 3: Spraypaint
Lay out about 100 plastic prism picks and spray paint evenly to make sure all edges are covered. Flip them over and spray any unfinished sides.
Step 4: Assemble
Stick the prism picks in the styrofoam in an organized pattern at first, and then fill in any gaps as you see fit.
Step 5: Top it Off
Stick the wooden skewer into the flat side of the dome. Then, place the cake topper on the top of your wedding cake (making sure the styrofoam is very slightly elevated from the top of your cake and not touching). Get ready for a dazzling finish!
