Diva Dish: How Formal Should Your Save the Dates Be?

One of our customers is hosting an elegant wedding full of traditional style, but she’s facing a dilemma because fell in love with one of our more casual save the date card designs. Here’s what she emailed us:

Dear Divas,

My wedding invitations are going to be super formal to match the style of our big black tie event, but I’d like to send more casual save the date cards. Should the save the dates match my wedding invitations, or should we stick to more formal designs for the save the dates as well?

Thanks for your help!

Thank you for the question, Sarah!

We think that selecting your save the date cards is one of the best parts of wedding planning. Since save the date cards are usually casual, you can definitely be playful and have fun with your personal style without compromising the look of your entire event.

That being said, there are a few things to remember. If you’re hosting a formal wedding, don’t let your save the date cards stray too far from that look. You can still add photos and playful text, but always remember that your save the date cards set the tone for the rest of your event. If they are completely different from the style of your invitations, your guests might be confused about the style of your ceremony.

For instance, these unique save the date cards (including some of our new save the date postcards!) would perfectly match a formal wedding without sacrificing the fun, casual vibe you said you preferred:

But these more modern designs might be too indie for the wedding you intend to have (even though they are super cute!).

What do you think? Do you have any suggestions for Sarah? Post them in a comment and we’ll make sure she gets them!
