Inspiration Board: Canary Yellow & Gray

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

If you’re looking for fun and yet elegance, think bright yellow and subdued gray. It’s a winning combination that though started in spring will take you all the way into fall. Here are some ways to add this color theme throughout your wedding!

Yelllow and gray look fabulous together especially on our Two Birds Wedding Invitations in Mustard. It’s a beautiful way to introduce guests to your color theme. Martha Stewart’s Carnival Stand and Sweet Little Daisies Cake are all about bright colors and sweets.

Petal Chandelier earrings, swirl ring and Autumn necklace from Banana Republic.

Beautiful in yellow and gray, photos from Brides.

Getting Inspiration from Movies

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

I’m sure we all fell in love with movies like “My Bestfriend’s Wedding,” “wishing and hoping and praying” that while our wedding day won’t be such a disaster, our bridesmaids and we would one day look as beautiful as Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz. If you haven’t seen this one or other wedding movies listed here, I’d say do some research. It’ll give you ideas, help you get inspired and have fun while doing it!

Who could forget that lavender dress that Julia Roberts wore as the Maid of Honor? Kimberly Wallace played by Cameron Diaz’s character definitely had an elegant wedding. Wedding Paper Divas Letterpress Collection and Floral Damask wedding invitations in Burgundy would be fitting.   (Photo from Yahoo! Movies.)

Sex in the City’s Carrie Bradshaw did it ‘Big’ on her wedding day with big hair, dramatic colors and couture dresses in the movie. Her invitations would have to have her signature piece, a big, beautiful flower. (Photo from NY Daily News.)

3) Though it took place in the 80’s, what makes, “The Wedding Singer” so inspiring is the songs, characters and that it is funny. And simple and sweet like the Sassy Stripes Wedding Invitations in Bisque.  (Photo from Yahoo! Movies.)

4) Runaway Bride another movie starring Julia Roberts showcased a variety of wedding styles. This one is country chic and my favorite in the movie. And Butterfly Love Wedding Invitations in Pumpkin perfectly matches the romance and beauty of the scene. (Photo from Yahoo! Movies.)

Getting Honeymoon Ready

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I admit that the last few weeks there’s only been one thing on my mind…my honeymoon! I’ve searched the web for some great ways to get all of you recently wed brides geared for a romantic vacation.

1) If you’re heading for somewhere cold, this gorgeous Fair Isle Sweater dress will keep you warm and in style. The flirty little rosette dress is perfect for a night out with your new husband. The cure for the end of the summer blues? Warm sand, ocean breezes in a tropical dream. This halter maxi dress will help you get there. All from Victoria’s Secret.

2) These chic weekender bags are a stylish and useful accessory, carrying everything you need for short and long vacations. From left, Billabong Road trip bag, $74 from Swell, Victoria’s Secret Pink travel duffel $59.50, and Fossil Weekender Duffle $138.

3) Bring your wedding thank you cards with you and be inspired by the beautiful scenery to send out your words of appreciation!

A Pocketful of Regrets

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

An article on MSN.com caught my attention. Titled, “Biggest Wedding Regrets,” it reported various responses from newly married brides about the things they wished they had done differently. I’m listing a few of my own regrets with some from the article here. Hopefully, it’ll get those of you who are in the process of planning to realize the imperfection of all weddings, as well as help those who have already gotten married to accept your wedding’s little mistakes and dramas.

1) RECEPTION

One bride regretted having a chocolate fountain at her wedding because of the mess it caused with the flower girls and their dresses. She recommended either not having one or packing a kit filled with things like towelettes in case of this type of emergency. Another bride wished that she hadn’t relied on online maps as directions. To prevent your guests from getting lost, run through the directions at least once and then make sure to include direction cards with your invitations.

2) BRIDES

Brides regretted everything from wearing false eyelashes to not having a picture of the bustle before the actual wedding. The main theme here involves the importance of practicing beforehand. Make sure you try on everything prior to the big day.

3) WEDDING PLANNING

I wished I hired a wedding coordinator earlier in the process, and that I hired a videographer so my dad wouldn’t have felt like he was “working” during my reception. Think about whether you would rather spend a few thousand dollars for a more reputable company or for additional services.

Another bride said that she regretted doing her own invitations. Again, I think it’s important to weigh the cost of time versus money. Spending a little more money might be worth it if in return you’re getting better quality vendors and less stress from doing your own invitations. Also, I ordered my stationery online from Wedding Paper Divas (Wild Grass Save the Dates) to save money without having to sacrifice style or taste.

Girlfriend Getaway

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Why not extend the bachelorette party with your girlfriends to a whole weekend instead of just one night? It’ll be a chance to relax with the girls, reminisce about your single days and celebrate the upcoming wedding. Check out HolidayGoLightly for planned destinations that include all types of trips, from adventurous tours like going surfing on Oahu to taking a relaxing sunset sailing tour at Martha’s Vineyard. Budget Travel also has its own magazine on traveling specifically with your girlfriends, and their website has great articles, including how to be sensitive to your bridesmaids worries about cost, an article titled, “How to Plan a Bachelorette Party” and a ton of featured deals for you and your girlfriends.

After you’ve figured out what you’ll do, send out these fun, chic cards to invite them all over for a memorable time!

This Spa Days Bachelorette Party Invitation would be great for–what else?–a spa themed weekend getaway! Or, if you’re having an elegant gathering involving museums, parks and maybe some shopping, send out these Lovely Butterfly Bachelorette Party Invitations.

Inspiration Board: Mint Chocolate Dream

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I was inspired by this week’s inspiration board when I saw a shoe with these same colors. Mint green and chocolate makes a refreshing combo that can be dressed up or down depending on how casual or formal you want to make your event. May this help inspire your own wedding theme!

Green and brown wedding cake and boutonniere from the Knot; Flora taffeta knot dress from Ann Taylor; 4 stone autumn ring by Fossil; Martha Stewart wedding favors; Brides.com captivating centerpieces; Wedding Paper Divas Edged Monogram Wedding Invitations; Franco organic assorted mint chocolate from Macy’s.

Save the Date!

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

I love checking out other wedding blogs, so was intrigued when I read Simply Stated: Nearly Wed recently. The blogger’s entry was a debate about save the date cards and whether they were necessary or overdone in weddings today.

According to the Wedding Report, a 2008 industry trend calls for couples to personalize their complete wedding suite, which includes Save the Date Announcements. And, while most are used specifically for destination weddings or weekend weddings, I personally think that they are a beautiful and fun way to introduce your wedding to guests early.

I’ve received several types of save the date cards in the past, from magnets to photo cards, and have always enjoyed getting them. In addition, if you have a lot of out of town guests like I did, or your wedding date is near a major holiday, and you may want to ensure that the majority of your guests will come by sending out one of these cards as a nice courtesy. Here are a few fresh save the date designs from Wedding Paper Divas that I love.

Fall into this Fall’s Wedding Style

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

It’s hard to believe that summer’s almost over, and with the upcoming fall season just around the corner, I thought I’d prepare you with gorgeous gowns and autumn-inspired save the dates. Enjoy my Fall Inspiration Board.

1. Guests will love you for giving them something unique that they can actually use. Modern Bride’s idea to give out burlap bags filled with apples and apple pie recipes is chic and sweet. 2. Who else but Martha Stewart could come up with those beautiful and creative boutinnieres? 3. The Knot’s Fall wedding cake is untraditionally modern. 4. This Jessica McClintock bridesmaid’s dress comes in a variety of colors, and is a steal at only $130. 50. The gorgeous orange calla lilies come from The Knot’s real weddings. 5. I love Vera Wang, and her Fall 2008 bridal runway on Brides.com is no exception! 6. I may be biased but I think Wedding Paper Divas’s Maple Leaves Ecru Save the Dates are perfect for a fall wedding.
