DIY Wedding Reception Stationery

7:00:12 by Julie | 2 Comments

We are thrilled to share with you once again the beautiful DIY project by Jennifer and Jessica from Linen, Lace & Love. See how they’ve added that special personal touch to our reception stationery.

This beautiful Watercolor Garden wedding program on pearl white shimmer paper is just stunning. With all of Wedding Paper Divas stationery, it’s so well designed that you don’t want to add too much, or it takes away from what is already there. So we decided to do some watercolor of our own.

Wedding Paper Divas Wedding Programs

Using a drugstore watercolor set I painted a sheet of watercolor paper in the color palette of the program. After it was dry, I used a heart shaped hole punch to make homemade confetti.

Then, I put my homemade heart confetti into a mini glassine envelope, typed Love in Bloom onto watercolor paper, painted over it, punched it out, and glued it onto the front of the envelope.

I took a small hole punch and punched the top of the envelope, and then punched holes equal distance from each side, on the spine of the program. Next, I threaded a purple ribbon through the bottom of the program, through the confetti envelope, and then back out through the top hole and tied it in a bow.

Now all of the guest will have a fun surprise when they open their program, as well as confetti to throw when the bride and groom walk down the aisle.

This modern, tribal themed invitation suite was so much fun to work with. Your first impulse will be to over arrow. Arrows are so much fun to use, but I found this amazing gold leather cording in the jewelry making section of Michael’s and thought it would be the perfect addition.

Wedding Paper Divas Reception Stationery

I made arrows by painting cake pop sticks gold, and cutting the arrow head and tail out of black glitter paper. I also used the black glitter paper to create the program and table number.

For the table display we found the most amazing linens at Concepts Event Design; the table cloth is a black raw silk called onyx shantung, and the napkin is a shimmery gold raw silk called miss metallic dupionu shantung. It’s a rustic, but formal feel that ties the look together.

Wedding Paper Divas Reception Stationery

The table number is a stamp from Paper Source, that I embossed using gold embossing powder. (DIY: embossing here) The table number is made to hang on a wine bottle, and then it can be cleared when everyone has been seated, and the wine is poured.

Wedding Paper Divas Wedding Reception Menus - Archer’s Affection

This bright and joyful Petal Cluster collection made me think of a dandelion, because the menu card looks like a dandelion’s petals blowing off as someone makes a wish…so that became the theme of choice.

Wedding Paper Divas Reception Stationery

We went back to water coloring and made confetti out of tangerine, fuchsia, and lime. Then punched either side of the program, for a different look, and over the glassine envelope typed out My heart made a wish (for all of you Disney fans out there, this phrase was inspired by a dream is a wish your heart makes), and then wrapped it up in some pink bakers twine.

For the menu we took the same idea with the side punches and the pink bakers twine, but we used the phrase Wishes do come true.

Wedding Paper Divas Reception Stationery

The linens we chose were: coral conch shantung, and fuchsialishous shantung.

Wedding Paper Divas Reception Stationery

The coloring of the table number and name cards reminded me of the Watercolor Garden program, so I kept with the floral theme and added fake flower blooms to both the table number and name card.

I again used embossing to create the actual number, this time with a purple embossing powder.

Wedding Paper Divas Wedding Reception Table Cards - At Last

What is cuter than a bicycle built for two? A wedding stationery line using a bicycle built for two. These were so darling that all I could do was wrap them up like a present!

Wedding Paper Divas Reception Stationery

The back of the bike has a ribbon that says we do so I carried that phrase over into the decor. I printed out we do on water color paper, and painted it red. Then when it was dry I punched it out with a large, heart-hole punch and added little punches above it to string the twine through…cause everything is more fun when it’s wrapped like a present!

I took the same idea for the menu, except the menu said celebrate so I used that phrase, and wrapped it around with bakers twine.

For the table linen we used Natural Burlap and the red napkin is cranberry kiss shantung.

Citrus Themed Bridal Luncheon

7:10:57 by Julie | No Comments

Melissa Smrekar from Southern Vogue shares her wonderful story and beautiful pictures from the bridal luncheon she hosted inspired by our Fresh Romance bridal shower invitation.

When my childhood best friend, Lauren, got engaged and then asked me to be her Maid of Honor, my brain immediately starting spinning with ideas for creating a fabulous Bridal Shower for my most special friend.

Southern-Vogue1

Lauren didn’t have a particular theme she desired for the shower; rather she causally mentioned that she loved the color yellow. For the venue, I selected the FDR Suite at The Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas, Texas. (The room was named the “FDR Suite” because this is where the President and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt stayed on their trip to Dallas in 1936. I love this little bit of history!) The room itself has a gorgeous green damask wallpaper. So, by pairing yellow and green together, the citrus theme was born!

Southern-Vogue8

After selecting the venue (The Mansion on Turtle Creek) and the theme (Citrus), the next step was selecting the perfect invitation to set the tone for the event. Invitations are one of my favorite elements of any party because they immediately let your guest know what the party will be like. I wanted this Bridal Shower to be two things: fresh and chic. It took me quite a while to find what I was looking for. Everything seemed to be either too boring or too busy. I even considered commissioning my own original invitation (which would have been oh-so-pricey!) when I stumbled upon the Wedding Paper Divas website and found exactly what I was looking for in the “Fresh Romance” invitation suite.

Wedding Paper Divas Fresh Romance Bridal Shower Invitation

Though they were created to accompany wedding invitations, I opted to include the RSVP cards because I thought this added a little something extra and made keeping track of the responses so easy (for both the guests and for me!). In particular, I loved that Wedding Paper Divas provided the option to use any color scheme I wanted. I asked them to change the brown text box to green so that it would fit in perfectly with my color scheme. The invitations and response cards were absolutely stunning.

Southern-Vogue4

My initial inspiration came from an image I saw on Pinterest of lemon trees being used as table centerpieces. So, I created a lemon topiary, as well as a table runner using leaves and actual lemons. I fell in love with this idea of a non-floral centerpiece that was still natural. Combined with the four yellow vases I filled with green and white flowers, it definitely created the fresh, clean and chic vibe I sought after!

Southern-Vogue3

Other little details that really brought the party to life:

  • Mini-Topiary Placecard Holders (that I’ll get use of out for a long time to come!)
  • Spring for modem calligraphy (Etsy is your new best friend)
  • Yellow Linen Napkins tied like bow ties (rent & return!)
  • Individual Boxes of Cake Balls with a coordinating favor tag and grosgrain ribbon (the best favors are always edible!)
  • A tiered stand of lemon and pistachio French macaroons (because who can deny a macaroon?)
  • A yellow, silver and gold tassel garland that I made and hung around the gift table (so on trend!)
  • A vintage, 1960s Peacock Chair for the bride to sit in while opening gifts (it created a stunning vignette for photos!)
  • Giant yellow balloons (in a color that really “POP”s!)

Southern-Vogue5

Because I planned months ahead of time, doing little bits here and little bits there, this Bridal Shower Luncheon was… a piece of cake! It gave me such great joy to shower my lifelong best friend with a party that was so totally her! I shy away from doing anything “cookie cutter” because life’s too short to do something boring! Think outside the box and create an event that reflects the personality of the person you’re showering with love. It is a memory that they will cherish forever!

Southern-Vogue7

Finally, I leave you with my three mottos for a celebratory life…

  1. Buy the dress, find the occasion!
  2. Presentation is just as important as the present!
  3. No champagne, no gain!

DIY Wedding Invitations

11:04:10 by Julie | 7 Comments

We are thrilled to introduce you to Jennifer and Jessica from Linen, Lace & Love. See how they’ve added that special personal touch to our wedding invitations.

I loved the chalkboard detail on this invitation, and how beautifully the flowers popped on the card. I originally made a chalkboard tag, but it just got lost in the invitation. So, I cut little leaves from green paper and wrote “grow in love” using a white gel pen, hole punched them, and tied the leaves to the invitation using orange and white bakers twine. I also added an orange envelope and sealed the back using white wax and a fleur di lis seal. Lastly, just for fun, I made a fabric flower using a packet of fabric pink rose petals (found at most wedding stores), a link to my tutorial is here: DIY Fabric Flowers. The flowers would be a lovely idea for escort cards; just write the guests name on the first leaf, and the table number on the second leaf.

The warm vintage feel of this invitation lent itself to some fun additions. I added a vintage key to the invitation using brown and white striped bakers twine. And printed out a tag that read “TO MY HEART,” backed it in a little piece of french linen, and attached that to the key. Then I filled a kraft mailer box with kraft paper shreds, closed the box, and wrote the guests address on the top of the box using a white gel pen. Don’t forget to seal the sides of the box; I recommend circle sticker labels from any office supply store. And always weigh your package at the post office to make sure you use the correct postage.

I loved the bright orange and blue used for the bride and grooms names, so I added an orange envelope. I then took some white paper and spray painted it with an aqua blue spray paint (you can always just look for a blue color paper you like instead), let that dry for about 20 minutes, used a tape roller to add a blue triangle piece to the envelope, and wrote the guests address using a white gel pen. For the invitation, I cut a tag, wrote “TO HAVE & TO HOLD” in white gel pen, hole punched it, and tied it onto the card using orange and white bakers twine.

This invitation is so beautiful and simple, there were so many ways we could go with it. I chose the formal approach. I dressed this invitation up using a metallic silver folder envelope, navy blue satin ribbon, and a piece of silver glitter card stock.

Wedding Paper Divas Wedding Invitation - Flourish Title

  1. First I cut a piece of the silver glitter card stock a little bigger than the invitation, and used glue dots to stick the two together.
  2. Then I printed out the bride and groom’s initials in navy type from my computer and backed those in silver card stock using double-sided tape.
  3. Then I cut two long slits at the top of each letter and using an X-ACTO knife, and threaded the navy satin ribbon through.
  4. Next, I hole punched the sides of the envelope pocket and tied the initial banner onto the pocket.
  5. To seal the envelope, I used a tape roller on the back side of the ribbon navy satin ribbon and taped it to the center of the envelope all the way around. Make sure to leave tape off of a long end of ribbon at the beginning and end, so you can tie that in a bow.
  6. Then, I cut a little “bow tie” out of silver glitter card stock, hole punched the center on either side, and tied a bow through the “bow tie.”

I recommend to use a bigger envelope to put this invitation in (I recommend a navy blue one), when mailing it, or you can glue dot the envelope closed (underneath the bow tie), and place a white sticker label on the front (opposite side of the bow tie) for the guests address. And don’t forget to weigh the invitation, and talk to your local post office to make sure you get the correct postage. These invitations would need to be hand stamped at the post office, because the envelope is so thick that it wouldn’t be able to run through the machine they have. You can simply ask your local post office, and they can hand stamp your invitations (it looks prettier anyway, so we recommend you do this regardless).
