I dread party games with a passionate dislike akin to my feelings for karaoke or line dancing. That being said, I have been to a few showers where the games actually made the entire event more fun. Whether you use games to break the ice, entertain your guests or embarrass the bride, here are a few references to help you get started planning party games that will make your party happier—not horrifying!

Project Wedding has some cute bridal shower game ideas, including “In Her Words,” which involves writing down what the bride says as she opens each gift (think, “How did you know I wanted this?!”) and then reading back her responses as what she’ll say on her wedding night.
June Wedding offers some of her own ideas about what makes a bridal shower game fun instead of fearsome, including tormenting the bride with a “get read for your honeymoon in the dark game” instead of tormenting guests with another round of charades.
Celebrations features a fun list of ice breakers, including one where all guests write a brief synopsis of their first kiss on a card, toss them all together and then try to guess which kiss belongs to which attendee. Unfortunately, in this game, mine would be the only scenario involving Denny’s and a plate of mozzarella cheese sticks.
Weddings Galore takes the bridal shower game a step further, with entire themes crafted around the idea of fitness, gardening or things a bride simply can’t live without.
Love to Know has some funny ideas for couples’ showers, including “Love Duets” karaoke. I know I said I hate doing karaoke, but watching the bride and groom sing ridiculous songs to each other sounds too good to pass up.

When I was little being a flower girl meant you looked like a mini version of the bride. Luckily, today’s flower girl fashion is fun and fresh. Your younger attendants can sport colorful dresses that are age appropriate and match the rest of your event. A friend forwarded me this article from the New York Times yesterday, and I wasn’t really surprised by what it says. Men are getting more involved in the wedding planning process these days, meaning that they want to help their future spouses to create a special occasion for all of their guests. This doesn’t mean they necessarily want to spend hours picking out flowers or satin ribbon, but they might be interested in the style and color of your invitations, groomsmen attire and event décor.

GroomGroove offers everything a guy needs to play his part with finesse. Find tips for making speeches, hosting a rocking reception and even a checklist of the groom’s duties.
Looking for gifts tailored to grooms, with a little advice thrown in for good measure? The Man Registry is the site for you. They have everything from personalized beer steins to tips for writing vows that will leave her teary-eyed.

A new wedding planning website, The Wedding Vine, is busy getting everything up and running. In the meantime, they have some great informative articles from experts around the web, including this one from Wedding Paper Divas! Wedded Bits from Brides.com was my first source for the breaking news that Cole Haan just released a bridal line of their Nike Air heels! I sooo wish these had been aroung for my wedding!

I am loving this post on DIY hanging lanterns from joliejolie design blog. With instructions on how to hang the lanterns in even the strictest of ballrooms, this post is invaluable for thrifty brides!

-What Junebug Loves is usually exactly what I love, which is why I found this post on Wedding Genealogy Charts from Melangerie, Inc. fascinating. What an adorable gift idea!

-Who doesn’t love looking at wedding gowns? I still stare dreamily at wedding gowns for hours on end, and I got married almost two years ago. Weddings Fresh fulfills my dreams every Friday with their Gown Friday posts.

-Finally, I am absolutely in love with Social Couture, a website that sells complete table settings for 8 for any event and theme at a very reasonable price. As I surfed the web this week, drinking in all of the different tidbits on my favorite wedding websites, I couldn’t help but want to share how great some of these blogs are. So this week’s link love is dedicated to all the great wedding blogs out there–show them some love!

Something Old, Something New featured this absolutely gorgeous wedding cake–since my cake was a giant failure, I can only wish that this had taken its place!

I love, love, love this post on veils from Weddings Fresh. The pictures alone are enough to keep me occupied for at least a half hour.

Snippet and Ink’s feature on the website PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com is perfect for the oh-so-chic Recessionista Bride!
