Good Luck Charms - Fake or Fabulous?

Friday, December 19th, 2008

On the day of my wedding, my grandmother gifted me with the handkerchief she had carried in her wedding.  As I walked dutifully with it down the aisle, wrapped around my bouquet, a small part of me truly believed it would bestow good luck on my marriage.  Considering I was raised to believe that walking under a ladder or opening an umbrella indoors would surely cause bad luck, this is not surprising.  (To this day I am petrified when a black cat crosses my path or I see the number 13…but that is another story.)

Good luck charms can come in any shape or form.  Whether it be a necklace you’ve had since a child or a gift given to you on the day of your wedding, good luck charms can instill a sense of comfort on a day full of nerves.  So what do you believe?  Do good luck charms comfort you, or is the idea of an object changing your fate completely ridiculous?
