I hate to be critical, but rhinestone-encrusted t-shirts that say “bridesmaid” and cheap plastic travel mugs with a person’s initial do not make good wedding party gifts. I’ve been a bridesmaid in three weddings and am getting married this June, and every time I’ve been in a wedding the brides have given me something unique that I can use not only in conjunction with their wedding but for years to come. Some examples include a custom-made clutch in my favorite colors and a pair of sterling silver earrings from Tiffany & Co. Although they sound expensive, both of these items were actually under $100.

Also, knowing how insanely expensive it can be to be a part of someone’s wedding, I opted to give my bridesmaids money toward their attire, hair and makeup for the day instead of picking out a gift that will potentially collect dust in the back of their closets. Most of my close friends are starting to have children, saving to buy their first home, and doing other things that require lots of money, so any financial burden I can take off of them wedding-wise is a good thing and very much appreciated on their part. Of course, I plan to give each of them a handwritten note at the bridesmaid luncheon to express my gratitude.
