If you’re a recessionista bride or engaged couple on a budget, this email from a reader is probably something you’ve considered…
Dear Divas,
It’s a recession. We’re buying a house. We’re on a tight budget. Are wedding favors really necessary?
Thanks for your input,
Budget Bride

Oh, Budget Bride, this question has been asked so many times! The fact of the matter is that, like most parts of traditional wedding planning, favors are not “required”—but it certainly is lovely to have something for your guests to bring home. I think the question shouldn’t be whether or not favors are required, but more a matter of how to find inexpensive favors that are still brimming with fresh style. For instance, how does this sound?
- Personalized Hersey’s chocolate bars for 35¢ each
- Travel candle favors for 70¢ each
- Personalized tea bag favors for 90¢ each
- Mini-favor pails for 70¢ each
Great, right? They are all from our Beau-coup wedding favor boutique. Even if these favors don’t fit into your budget, you can still set up a candy or cookie bar and order these personalized goodie bags for only 60¢. That way everyone will go home with a treat and you’ll still stay well within your price limit.
Good luck with the rest of your wedding planning!

Our daughter works for an outreach center for homeless 17-21 year olds, so we are giving a donation to them in honor of our wedding guests. We will put cards on the tables to that effect. So often wedding favors are not taken or just tossed when arriving home.
From a Wedding Photographers point of view, if you are on a budget you might want to skip the favors and spend the money else where.
