Bride’s Diary: The Venue… It’s All About the Décor!

7:31:39 by Jessy | 3 Comments

Wedding Paper Divas is bursting with staff grooms- and brides-to-be who are currently planning their weddings. We’re happy to share their stories with you as a part of this fun feature!

It’s been three months after the proposal and my mind has been consumed by the venue and its decor! David and I were lucky to have our dear family friends offer their gorgeous house and backyard in Atherton, CA for our wedding. We will be getting married in their front lawn at 5pm in the evening. Then, we will have dinner under a blanket of twinkly lights and chandeliers in their backyard, which has a gorgeous lawn, rose garden, and 100 year old oak tree!

I know that I want a dressier outdoor fete, so I picked out these beautiful dark mahogany chivari chairs. I also want to incorporate my favorite color pink into the décor as well, with pops of white and green. Although these chivari chairs are double the price of the white folding chairs (typical), I really think that it is worth the investment. I love how elegant they look in a backyard setting!

Another none-negotiable for the décor is an outdoor lounge area. I want to rent a white sofa, vintage white chairs and a coffee table with pink and white flowers to be placed right by the dance floor. I am seriously in love with the setup below—truly stunning!

Now that the venue and the décor inspiration has been picked, I am now searching for how to make this all happen! Where do I go to rent furniture for the lounge area? How about finding a fabulous florist? And those chandeliers that I want hung from the tree—where the heck do I find those?? Anyways, stay tuned for all these answers as well as many more decisions later! Can’t wait to see it all unfold…

David proposed to Alison at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and they are excited to get married August 25, 2012 in Atherton, CA.

DIY: Last-Minute Thanksgiving Table Decor

5:35:17 by Jessy | No Comments

Need a little last-minute decor inspiration for Thanksgiving tomorrow? This quick tabletop project can be put together just in time for Thanksgiving dinner. You might even be able to re-purpose some of the leftover materials from our pine cone pom project a few weeks back! Today we’re putting together a simple centerpiece and a cute napkin ring to give your hosting an extra dose of style. Ready? Grab your supplies and follow our lead.

What You’ll Need

  • Festive, fall-themed embellishments (we used dried florals and artificial pine cones from the craft store)
  • Double-sided tape
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Twine
  • Scissors

Napkin Ring

Cut your scrapbook paper down to strips that are two inches wide. Wrap and use your double-sided glue to attach and form a ring. Then, use your festive embellishments to decorate! Slip them over paper or cloth napkins for a gorgeous holiday look.

Centerpiece

Find any glassware you have around the house that could be used as a centerpiece (we used a simple circle vase we had lying around the office!). Then, fill it with sparkly pinecones, dried florals or whatever fits your fancy. A simple project like this can go a long way at the holidays… and your guests will be sure to love it!

If  you try this craft idea yourself, or if you have any DIY ideas to share, send your photos to blog@weddingpaperdivas.com and we’ll post them for all of our fans and followers.

8:13:07 by Contributors | 2 Comments

Once in a lifetime photos? Or a special private moment? The jury is out on whether to have friends or family at the marriage proposal.

We’ve heard stories of family that is there snapping photos but otherwise remain unseen to full-on parties where everyone there knows the news and is in on helping plan the surprise. And, of course, a more traditional private moment just for the two of you. Would you rather keep the special moment in your memory or share it with those close to you? Rant or rave and tell us about your proposal story!

FormDecor Adds ‘Old Hollywood’ Glamour to “I Do Over” from Diann Valentine

2:35:08 by Jessy | No Comments

We’re happy to bring you this tip from celebrity wedding planner and Wedding Paper Divas stationery designer, Diann Valentine. To shop for her designs, check out our Diann Valentine collection.

I have been a fan of FormDecor for several years. When designing an event I am always looking for eclectic pieces that can work in unison to interpret an overall design aesthetic rather than simply renting a complete lounge grouping of identical pieces. Fritz Williams has carved out a much needed niche of offering authentic vintage modern furniture rentals from some of the most respected designers in furniture design. When the opportunity arose to design an Old Hollywood ‘Vanity Fair’ inspired set for the premiere episode of I Do Over, I knew that Form Décor would have a mix of everything I needed. I recently had a chance to sit down with Fritz, Jeff Sigler and Rachel Michael to chat about just what makes them so fabulous!

DV: I have been a long-time fan of your collection of furnishings because of your artistic perspective that goes into selecting new pieces. What inspires you while you are shopping for an addition to your inventory?

Fritz: Shape. Fabric. Texture. I’m always looking for something unique. I find a lot of inspiration in high-end boutique hotels. And I get very excited when the new Pantone color direction is announced! I want to know what’s going to be in for next season so that we can anticipate style and color demands.

DV: Lounges have become so popular in event design. Where do you see furniture rentals evolving to in our industry?

Jeff: I see event lounges evolving into more accessorized environments that give attendees a comfortable experience like a home setting. Lamps, rugs, pillows…etc.  FormDecor rents all of these to offer more than just furniture—we offer style. Also, just as in our home environments, a suitable lounge is no longer just a repetition of a single seating option. Modern event decor incorporates an eclectic variety of seating elements, including benches and ottomans, daybeds, sofas, loveseats and chairs. When all of these different elements complement each other without being repetitious, that’s what we call style.

DV: Do you design and fabricate original designs or only stick with vintage finds?

Jeff: We obtain our furniture from a wide variety of sources.  It suits our eclectic nature!  By repurposing vintage finds, we not only help the environment, but we get to have a lot of fun re-inventing the past.  Of course retro modern reproductions will always be in high demand.  And when we just can’t find what we need to suit a particular event design, we work with our many talented fabrication resources to create something unique and… always… functional.

DV: Your pieces allowed me to design a ‘Vanity Fair’ set for Dana & Mike Santini—the couple that viewers will meet on our premiere episode after they had no memorable photographs from their wedding due to bridesmaids dresses disaster on I Do Over. What tips would you give a bride or event designer using your pieces to create a memorable and unique backdrop?

Fritz: Really utilize the rental resources available to you to make it your own space.

Jeff: Yes, use elements in your event décor that represent your style and theme. When photos are taken of you and your guests, you want to have a background that represents a cohesive style…a style that represents you and the occasion.

Fritz: FormDecor’s background screens are very useful to set the tone and define an area. Savvy event designers are using our screen panels to cover up the parts of a venue that don’t fit consistently with their style.

Real Weddings: Courtney and Zack

3:49:22 by Anum | 7 Comments

Today’s Real Wedding features the wedding of Courtney and Zack, which took place at the Historic Gordon Lee Mansion and Gardens in Chickamauga, GA. The ceremony was on the front steps of the mansion and the reception was in the back gardens. Courtney carried her grandfather’s wedding band and her great grandmother’s pearl pin on her bouquet, so that they could also walk her down the aisle. The custom cake topper was a special detail as well since Courtney designed it and her dad carved it out of a solid piece of wood. At the reception, the couple made sure there were activities for all the guests to enjoy; if anyone didn’t want to dance they could play yard games including Corn Hole, Bocce Ball, and Ladder Ball. Here are some of the beautiful photos, courtesy of Charles Coleman.
